W.A.MOZART Quintetto per pianoforte e fiati KV452
L.V.BEETHOVEN Quintetto per pianoforte e fiati op.16

This recording is devoted to two chamber works by Mozart and Beethoven written for an unusual combination of instruments: piano, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. No other pieces by these two composers for this particular ensemble, rarely used even by their contempories, are known to exist. The date of composition adds further interest when comparing the two works. For Mozart the year 1784 and for Beethoven 1797. Mozart's is a late work while Beethoven's composition belongs to his first creative period, op. 16. It is nonetheless interesting to note that both wrote their quintets at the same age - Mozart was 28 and Beethoven 27.In terms of structure one finds in both quintets similarities: - the same choice of key and number of movements; the same tempo and form for the opening movement; the same form for the third movement.
